Picky blue ram

Have you tried frozen bloodworms or beef heart? Both are very popular with my rams. Also, what kind of cover do you have for the fish? I have a lot of live plants, and that seems to help make the fish feel more comfortable. I also feed various different flake foods, shrimp pellets, and other frozen foods like tubifex, brine shrimp, etc.

And then again, maybe your fish is just lonely.

i too have a heavy planted tank, 29g, feed them blood worms, not frozen though. with vege flakes.

no sand, i have florite.

i did however see a change today, i added more peat, i have peat on one of the filters, and none on the other, but this morning i put in the other, added 2 tsp of Baking soda, saw the one ram that i thought wasn't going to make it, running around with the other. so, my guess, alonge with WC i will have to add BS and check on my peat.

I'm thinking that with guppies dieing and your ram not seeming very happy... there must be something wrong in the tank. The reason your ram may not be eating may have to do with whatever is ailing your tank..and not just because she is being picky.

I think you mentioned that all your readings were coming out fine...what temp are you keeping the tank? I have german blues in a tank with 7.8-8.0 PH and they are happy, healthy and breeding. My hardness measures only about 80ppm so that can only help. Don't know what the GH and KH readings are though, but they also must be in a good range to help my rams out with that high PH.

Consider those other parameters...like the GH, KH and hardness..see if you can find out what they are and go from there. Also, I keep the temp in this tank up to 80F. My rams share the tank with 2 male dwarf gouramis and 3 otocinclus.
