Hey, thought I'd include some pics in their own thread since not many people are interested in bending wood for cabinet making *cough*kveeti*cough* :D

Pic 1 is the canopy which still is missing the front most piece of trim  that is being "tweaked" to fit better.

Pic 2 is the canopy inverted to see the 2X55 and 1X96 PC lights (from AHSupply) and the cooling fan. Hopefully you can see the 3/4"X3/4" lumber I used as a frame. Over that is 1/4" plywood. I should weigh this thing ...it's very light!

Pic 3 is the front of the stand. Here too there is a piece of trim missing. I'll put it on after the tank is on the stand. The trim goes from the top of the doors and covers the tank frame/trim.

Pic 4 is an open door. Had to include it just so Daveedka (Dave) would see he's getting some quality stuff when I give it to him (not :sim: ). Isn't that built in food holder/shelf to die for? :thud:

Great job, looks very professional and will be a nice piece of furniture.
How did you form the bow sections and were did you get the metal louvers for the top of the canopy? Any staining or building tips you’d like to share?

Great designs for the hood and stand. Love the cabinet doors.

What fish will you be housing in this new tank? Some Bristlenoses maybe :)

Btw, the juvi bristlenoses have been alot less shy and more active. They have bulked up a little, but are still very fragile looking. I'd like to wait until they have doubled in size before I give some away because this may be a one shot deal (unless I can get them to breed).

Very nice stand, I am impressed.

Thanks ashdavid, that means ALOT!

I think I covered the bending wood in the "bending wood..." thread but since some may not have seen it, I steam bent 1X4's (actually, since I cut the boards from rough cut lumber, some were 7/8" instead of 3/4"). The plywood was scored on the backside (you can see it prominantly in the open door pic) and bent by hand. Although the "plywood" used for the hood was more like luan (particle board core faced with birch veneer) and I scored that with a razor knife. Much cleaner looking and hard to see the lines with a coat of paint over it. Would have liked to use that same stuff with the doors but I let the wood sit too long after scoring it. When I tried to bend it, it snapped. They were out of the same stuff so I opted for the 1/4" ply for the doors. The metal louvers are from...Home Depot. They're soffet vents. I had to cut and paint them (some minor bending too). Building tips...? There are tons. Check out woodworking.com. Any specific questions you have? I didn't do anything fancy with the finish, just Minwax stain, 3-4 coats of polyurethane.

I'm really HOPING to keep a few cool looking bristlenose plecs in there, but I'm not in a hurry to get them. You'd like to wait until they double in size before giving *cough*or trading*cough* any away? No problem. Just remember, if someone else has some and they breed for that person, you'd be welcome to some of the offspring...I would think anyway ;)

I'll work on the mini bar, but I think my wife has a standing order in for some dressers. I keep saying, kids don't care where the clothes come from...they barely care if the clothes are clean!!!
