I bought a shop light a while ago at a home depot. Will that work to hold my 4 bulbs?

i went and pick 2-26watt bulb for a total of 52w. that something like 2.4wpg right.

2.6, but bear in mind that your losing a substantial amount of light due to re-strike. I would say 2-2.2 WPG would be about right.

Re-strike is when light is reflected back to the bulb.

Hmmm...I already have a glass lid but I want more watts over my tank. I think I might take some of these ideas and adjust them accordingly.

The only way to fix it is to get a normal CFL tube. What you have now is fine for growing all sorts of things though.

CFL bulbs are fine. They encounter "Restrike" which means you just have to round up on the number of watts you put over the tank. Just add a little extra, maybe 20% more watts.
