I work as a photographer, thought i'd rig up the lights to take some pics of the fish! Still trying to figure out the best way to do it but here are the shots so far. All shot on a Canon 40D with 24-70L

Trying to get more, I know I have tons of the albino oscar, but I really love it's orange spots. I'm used to seeing them with webbed patterns, when I saw this one I had to get it. I have a common pleco who's afraid of the flash but I'll get him sooner or later. Hope you like~

Very nice job- Do you mind sharing your strobe set-up? I'm guessing you've got to be lighting from the top to avoid flash reflection. Number of strobes? Positioning? Softbox or snoots?
Thanks,
Andy

Great ones!

The strobe set up was actually a bit... ridiculous. I have no experience with this sort of photography, so I sorta just set them up! Currently my boom stands are both being used by a friend, so I had no way of elevating the lights over the aquarium. I use Alienbees B800s and some old Elinchrom Style 400BXs. In these shots I actually had the lights on either side of the aquarium. The way my aquarium is positioned, I unfortunately don't have enough room to back the lights too far from it, so I didn't use snoots. If I did, a very narrow portion of the tank would've been illuminated. I instead used 7" reflectors, otherwise bare. I powered the light on the right slightly higher than the one on the left so as to retain shadows in the fish. Even though their position in the tank would create shadows anyway, I wanted to exaggerate them. As soon as I get my boom stand back I'd like to elevate the lights over the tank to obtain the spotlight effects I've seen in this forum.

Thanks for the comments!

:omg: Those pictures are totally awesome !!:woot: I also think that, that Oscar is just beautiful but then, all of your fish are stunning!! Thanks so much for sharing!! :thm:

Thank you! Yeah I really like the oscar as well, he/she wasn't treated very well at the petstore- tankmates were a fullgrown managuense fish, several large pike cichlids, alligator gar, shovelnose cat tail, etc.. fins are healing up nicely though, hopefully they will be fully healed in a week or so.
