pics of my tank

Yeh I reccomend investing in some real plants like some Crypts or Swords, it will enhance the water quality heaps too. Anubias' are good as they dont require as much light, but the others will fill your tank out a lot more and look similar to the fake ones you have.

Also, you should get a friend for your angel. Young angels especially will be skitish on their own as they have lived with a huge group for all their addolesant lives. Many fish will even die of loneliness and do far better in pairs at least. Tell your parents that if you are young and dont have much money and they will feel sorry for the little guy and buy you another.

If you are gonna grow plants though you may have to invest in some liquid fertiliser at least and maybe rig up a home made co2 unit, and possible increase lighting, depending on what you've got atm.

   My angel died last night. The perameters are good - my gouramis had him in hiding a lot but he looked like he was okay, occationally coming out to take a look around before being chased back in to his hiding spot. I'm so angry and confused. He had no sign of sickness but was on the small side. He ate very well though and had no visible signs of disease. I would like to add another fish but I don't want it to suffer the same death. Maybe I should get something bigger then my gourami. My tank looks so empty :(
Thanks though all for your positive comments.

Nice looking tank and if you like the fake plants keep them, but if you gourami was harrassing the angel then it probably did die of stress.

I agree.... a lot of species should be considered semi-aggressive rather than peaceful community fish (i.e. dwarf gouramis).

And tragically, their personalities vary... you just happened to get an aggressive one. If you buy more angels, make sure they're larger than the gouramis, and if the gouramis still give them problems, I would either see about taking it back to a LFS (it's hard to find a place that would take back a common fish though), or setup it's own tank or something.

I think your tank is just fine with those fake plants. It'll be much less of a hassel to care for. Looks like you got the better quality fakes too....as they age they'll start looking even more authentic....no dosing or pruning worries.....or trying to keep enough light over the tank to keep em growing but not too much so that the algae takes over..

Nice Job Boo ! :thm:

Your tank does look pretty newly setup. If it is new have you cycled it properly. Because a tank that is not cycled can kill weak, young or stressed fish very easy. And as I mentioned before he was by himself which in itself causes stress, and fish can die of loneliness. Gouramis can be agressive though especially towards smaller and new fish.

I recommend waiting to let your tank settle a bit and then get 2, 3 or 4 angels. I think the size you had yours should have been ok. But if you get a few they should be able to look out for each other. And if you get more angels than there are gouramis then they should out-rank them.

Personally I prefer to have fish from the same region because I believe they are easier to co-exist with no real trouble. I have angels with rams, tetras, coris and bristle-nose plecos. It is a very harmonious group and everyone has their place.

But I have had angels with gouramis before with no problems. You may have an ultra vicious dwarf gourami. This does happen with all fish. There will always be one out there somewhere who just things he is the king. I have returned an angel who was too violent.

Thats why I prefer smaller petshops because they will take returned fish as long as they are fit and healthy. Also they can order in what you want and they look after their fish better.

Also, I have just noticed that you only have one gourami. This is why he was chasing the angel. He needs a friend. Get another one and they will chase each other like they do. Then get a couple of angels. This way they shouldn't bother each other.

the tank looks great.

sorry to hear about the loss of your angel..but my guess is it was too young to deal with the gourami(even dwarfs can be aggressive)

you could add 3-4 angels to this tank. but is this the 25 you mention in the description?

if you add more than 2 you will most likely need to find a new home for some. a 25 is too small for more than 2 adult angels.(even 2 is pushing it a bit in a community tank)

the smallest angel (known) is the leopoldi it will grow to about 4" more commonly you will find Scalare in the LFS the one you had appeared to be a koi color. the scalare can reach a body of about 6" in the right conditions(not inlcuding finnage)

i do think an angel would do well in your tank.

what are your water parameters?
