Finally decided to buy a digital camera today and couldn't help but post some pictures of my 4 month old 50 gallon bow front reef aquarium. Any suggestions or comments would be welcome. :troll:
Looking good Tony! How do you keep the glass looking so clean, especially around where your LR is very close to it?? I have a 36 bowfront that has a lot of LR in it and I find keeping the glass clean to be a real pain in the butt! There are places that I just cannot scrape. I have a black background had gave up on cleaning the back glass. I'm eventually going to transfer the contents of the 36 to a larger tank and will leave plenty of room between the LR and glass!!
I clean the glass at the front and sides of the aquarium with a magnetic scraper daily. There is algae growth on the back and sides where the LR is very close which I cannot get to. My tank is only 4.5 months old so there is still a ways to go in terms of algae growth.
I've had my blue tang for about 3 months now and other than an early episode of ich, it seems to be quite content. Of all the fish in the tank, it eats the most. Despite the small size of the tank there are several tunnels and lots of open space for it to swim.
The orange coral is an Orange Tree Gorgonian (Swiftia exserta) that I picked up a week ago. You are correct, it is non-photosynthetic. I've been feeding it Cyclop-eeze and frozen mysis. It seems to be doing quite well as the polyps have opened up and remain that way.
Excluding the tank and equipment, probably about $1500. I'm lucky in that I've gotten to know a few fellow hobbyists in the city that sell frags to me at a really great price.
