PICTURES OF MY 100 GALLON TANK

I want to thank all of you for the very nice comments, when i aquascape my tank, i like to see it as i would if i were underwater:dive: . The fish are very peaceful with each other. I will pick out a fish or two to watch what they do and where they go, and it is not uncommon to see 2 of the tiger barbs & 3 of the tetras all group around a parrot fish and they will cruise around the tank together and will go into one of the sunken Bells i have at each end and stay in there for awhile, what they may be doing in there i don't know:huh: but they are tank buddies and it is fun to watch the tiger barbs and tetras break off from there own pack (school) and take off with the parrot fish for awhile. "Oh yeah, my lighting is 2- 24 inch Penn Plax flouresent "aquarium" lights I tried daylight lights but it looked to harsh and washed out the colors. These lamps are about 8 years old and i run them 14 hours a day and they are great. when it is time for new ones, i am going to look and see what improvements have been made to lights in the last 8 years.

It's a lovely tank, but did you know that parrotfish are hybrids, and cannot close their mouths? It puts them in constant pain. I just hope you are aware of this. They are also very pften dyed, although I do not think yours are.

some gain the use of their mouths as they age. it is usually only the small ones who have the fixed mouths. i dont think it causes them pain though, because that is how their mouths are built

But they are hybrids and frowned upon heavily in most places, as they simply are not narural fish. They were designed to be heart shapes, with some dealers even cutting off the fishes fins and tail to make them more heart shaped. I was just making the original poster aware. ;)

very nice looking tank. great piece of driftwood

:) Hi Kathryn, yes i do know that I see the ones that some stores sell that are dyed along with the dyed tetras i have seen and i WILL NOT buy those. in fact, i travel 35 miles to Reno to purchase my fish from a very reputable dealer who also feels the way you and i do. He does have parrots but he will not let dyed fish into his store. These 2 fish were in a 20 Gallon tank but they were much smaller then and i wanted to give them a better home in my 100 Gallon. Mine eat very well, both flake food and the bloodworms i feed them and they love em.My parrots both have functional mouths, but i have seen some that do not. here are my parrots enjoying their nitetime meal of bloodworms. also, thank you for your nice compliments on my tank. look close at a couple pictures of the parrots, the mouths are closed all the way:dive:

Hi,
Ok, that's fine. I was simply making ure you knew, but since they have functional mouths and were bought from a reputable dealer, it's ok.
Lovely tank. ;)

thanks Kathryn. I see places like these chain pet stores where they have every kind of animal for sale and it always seems that the poor fish seem to always be neglected. I have 2 stores here within 1 mile, a petco and a petsmart . but i will make about a 75 mile round trip to do business with my dealer. He may cost a little more, but he sells fish and ONLY fish. Wal mart is very bad here they will sell fish covered with Ich and tell people that they are a breed of spotted fish when asked. they have no business selling fish if they have no idea what they are doing and most definately not give people advice on raising fish, in my opinion.

Yup, I agree with you. ;)
I would not buy my fish from a large pet store, or one with any dead, diseased or dying fish.
