i need something that eats guppies, i have another tank (10g) set up for breeding them.

i was considering a pictus catfish because it has the ability to eat small fish. i didnt want to end up with to many guppies so i am considering putting it in my 29 gallon tank. right now in my 29 gallon tank i have 2 mollies, 2 comet goldfish, one CAE, one common pleco, one crayfish. what fish would i need to remove or get rid of in order to house the pictus catfish. i have a spare 20 gallon long, would it just be easier to set that tank up for the catfish alone?

one other thing does any1 else have any other fish alternative ideas instead of the catfish, possibly a slightly bigger catfish?

sorry guys for all of the questions in this forum

Stunt101,
The reason I recommended the pictus is that it only get's 6 inches and is relatively thin bodied compared to a lot of other 6" fish. A 29g is barely enough for 1 Pictus, Granted you could keep the mollies in the tank above him but the comets will get too big for a 29g not to mention they are a cold water fish, and need different temperatures than the tropical fish. the Crayfish is danger to almost anything you put in the tank including the Pictus. Sooner or later the crayfish will try to catch the cat and tear him up even if he isn't big enough to kill him. I would put the Crayfish in the 20, find a good home for the comets or buy a 55g for them, and put the pictus or a smaller predator in the 29 with the mollies.

The common Plec will be too big for even a 55 when it grows up so I would trade it in. Don't know much about the CAE's but definately wouldn't put a pictus in a 29 with one, not enough bottm space, and your fish will be unhappy.

Often times it seems like a lot of us who answer are scolding, this is not the case. Your tank as it sits is a time bomb, I know this from many unfortunate experiences. Step back, think about what you've got and re-think the situation. It's up to you what you do with your tank, but putting in another fish won't work. the fish you already have are far too many. you have three fish that wouldn't fit in a 29g by themselves, and a crustacean that will eventually wreck havoc on any fish in the tank.
