well, while pictus will eat during daylight feedings, they like most cats are nocturnal feeders by nature, so he may be having midnight snacks while you are asleep.

Mine will eat, or at least try to eat, anything that enters the tank. I've even seen them nibble at the zucchini I put in tank for my plecos.

Just to reinforce this quote, Pictus will eat fish as big as 1/3 of their size. When young if they are well fed they will generally leave things alone, as they get older or if they get hungry they will begin picking off live morsels. once they discover snails they will rid a tank of snails completely even MTS's. My pictus eat the MTS's shell and all. I have no clue how they can process that thick shell, but they have been doing so for over ayear in my tank.
