Hey guys my pictus looks like it has a haze on it. Kinda greyish was wondering what I should do. I don't know much of fish stuff like the diseases.

let me add that he is swimming straight up in the back upper corner of my tank. I don't know why he is doing this either.

I was just waiting to see who asked it first

I don't even know how to.

You need to purchase an Aquarium Pharmecuticals Freshwater Test kit. You can print off the online price off of petsmart.com. The online price is 13.99. Take that page into a petsmart, and they will sell you that kit for that price. That is your best bet. If you are going to be keeping fish. You NEED to be able to test the water. You can buy test strips, but they are crap and a waste of your time. My guess is that the water quality is not too great in the tank. The water can be bad even if it looks okay and this will cause stress to the fish. How often do you do water changes? How much do you change?

that's something i've only quite recently heard of, how exactly do I do water changes?

Well, here is what I do to my 55g. I have my tank in front of a window so I open the window and put the end of the gravel vac out the window so that is where the water drains to. Then I vaccuum the gravel until I have taken out at least half of the water. Then I get my tap water to the same temp as the tank, and fill up my bucket, put my chlor out or aqua safe into the water, then add it to the tank and repeat until I have filled the tank. I do this every 2 weeks. Most people here do it every week. Depends on the type of fish you have. Plus if you buy a thing called a python. You can do the water changes without a bucket. Just hook the tap right up to it and it puts the water directly into the tank. You just have to make sure that you put the dechlorinator into the tank first.

Ok well i took a sample of water down to test and found my nitrates nd nitrites were high. They said a 10% water change normally would work. I picked up a pleco while I was there, only 1.99 so i figured what the hell right. Anywho I also got some stress zyme and added that to the tank, maybe that will help my pictus's condition. I'm gonna do the water change tomorrow cause I have to study for a final tonight. if there is anything else anyone recommends just post it thanks.

He died.....I'm going to be doing a 20% water change today.
