Pike and bass

i have a friend that kept a baby bass in a 90 gallon, he kept it for I think a year or two and then let it go as it got too big. he fed it worms and minnows from the bait shop a few times a week. if you have any specific questions i could ask and get you an "in my experience" answer. also yeah it is probably illegal in many places to keep a small native fish like that in captivity, now it is not like the DNR comes around and checks everyones house for fish but if i was you i would just be careful who you showed it too or told about it.

umm, pike and muskie, will grow depending on theire enviroments, if u can keep a pike in a 300 + tank, then the muski would be fine in the same size. if anything, i would recoment putting the pike in a bigger tank, since they move around a bit more than the muskies do by nature. muskies are teratorial, so idealy, they would be better in a smaller tank than a pike. as far as a pike growing "huge" it depends what you feed it, and the water temps.

Redfin and Grass Pickerel would be fine singly in a 40 breeder or 55 gallon tank. Bass, Sunfish, and other Centrarchids may pester a pike or pickerel, believing its stabilizing fins to be a surface insect, as Pickerel blend in with driftwood and floating vegetation. This can result in general stress and eventual death for the Pickerel.

they say the same thing in some not too popular stores.

using this logic you could justify placing an Oscar in a 20 gallon tank.

Chard, how big is this tank you are going to use? and what tank mates?

I remember when I was younger that my father made a large tank out of an old refrigerator liner. He cut out one panel and cemented a large piece of plate glass to the inside and laid the liner on its back. We kept a largemouth bass in that liner for a year. We fed it night crawlers and minnows, then released it back into the wild the following season. He worked at a machine shop and had a large cylinder drum fabricated with a compressor and gauges. He raised a variety of tropical fish for sale and had around 20 fish tanks at that time.
I would agree you need a very large aquarium to keep bass and a much larger one for Northern Pike - with no heat. Personally, I believe fish that get that large should be left in their natural environment or be kept in a large city aquarium.

um you guys know that this thread is 3 years old correct? so are you really asking him 3 years later what size tank? he also said he is going the fw barracuda route
