I was told by someone who i believe is confused that the Pike Cichlid is another family member of the Snakehead. I realize it may look somewhat like one at a few inches. But i dont believe its any relation to the freshwater giant ,is that correct?

Pike cichlids-Crenicichla
Snakeheads-Channa

Snakeheads aren't even cichlids so how are they possibly related?

I agree. They're both products of convergent evolution where they evolved from different ancestors but in the end they look quite similar to each other but are still unrelated. Another great example of this would be a North American Flying Squirrel (placental mammal) and an Australian Sugar Glider (marsupial). Both look almost exactly the same, but they are still very different.

It was a silly question but now i have others to shut this belief down..I guess it is just seeing and believing without research. Orange pike cichlid do look alot like redline snakeheads at 2-3 inches as all pike do... I guess he was thinking like Pirana-Pacu which of coarse are a totally different story..
