Pink peacock Cichlid?

Your plants are anacharis scarlet temple and a water Hyacinthe (sp). I have never had any luck with Petsmart Stem plants. The tops will grow great but the bottoms will rot.

Alright. You guys definitely are the experts. Within a few hours I noticed the peacocks nipping at the corydoras and despite my wife's whines that it could wait until tomorrow, I moved the corydoras to the 40G with the convicts, tiger barbs, and six other corydoras. Is that too many corydoras in that tank now?
Also since the peacocks will outgrow the tank, kill tankmates, and eat plants....I'll return them to the LFS. As far as this tank what are your recommendations for inhabitants? Are yellow labs nicer? I love cichlids and medium sized fish and am not a fan of guppies, neons, and other tiny fish that seem to die so easily.

Yellow labs are mbuna and a bit meaner than peacocks. For a 20 gallon cichlid you could look into kribs or rams. If you were willing to go with smaller fish a 20 gallon makes a nice shellie tank. Neolamprologus multifasciatus is a good shell dweller for beginners. In a 20 gallon you aren't going to have a lot of options. Most african cichlids need at least a 3 foot tank with a 4 foot being ideal.

Alright. Hopefully I can find something like that at the LFS. Kribs, Rams, or Shellies. Thanks for the advice.

:iagree:

In addition to Blue's recommendations, you can look into apistos as well. Glad you're returning the peacocks.

EOD, look into Aquascapes in Aiea (By the Aiea public library & post office). They pretty much cater to ADA tanks - high light w/ pricey plants/wood/rock... but they have the best selection of the more "unusual" fish such as various apistos, rams, etc.

The LFS has water hyacinths in nearly all their tanks. I don't really know if they benefit a tank at all, but my wife got it so oh well

I don't think it's scarlet temple. I've been looking around on the net and haven't found much information. Anyone else have an idea for plant ID? Here's a new picture. It's shooting stems out all over.

Haven't turned in the peacock cichlids yet because I don't have money to get what I want to replace them with but I noticed them scooping up sand in their mouth and dropping it out of their gills and mouth as if sifting for food. Is that normal for this type of fish? They seem to be very picky eaters.
