Pirahna Feeding

You should not ever keep piranahs. Bad idea. Euthanise today.

Plenty of people keep pirhanas. There are entire websites devoted to them.

I agree with Raskolnikov: you should try to get them to eat pellets and frozen food.

I know people who keep poisonous snakes too.

I would'nt say piranhas are as dangerous as keeping poisenous snakes. I had a friend who had 4 red bellies in his 125. He fed them beef heart and other scrap meat from the butcher, jumbo pellets, and sometimes feeder fish but he didnt like to do that because of the chance of disease transmittal. And no anti-venom needed!

Do you have something positive to contribute? Perhaps even why these fish should be killed? Shall I speculate it is because of thier aggressive nature? If so, you will be having african cichlids that are just as bad as pirhanna, if not worse in the area of aggresion(pound for pound). Before picking on the posters choice in fish you should consider your own prectices. I do not see your correlation between these fish and poisonous snakes. I have read that all species of pufferfish contain some level of one toxin or another. Are you suguesting we ban puffers from the hobby too? Do you know pacus are related to pirhanna? http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62439

There is nothing wrong with keeping Pirahna...they are a pretty fish. The only problem is what to do with them when you have to get rid of them for some reason....a lot of people just dump them into a local river or lake...not a good idea. But look at Oscars, they are just as aggressive, just don't have the teeth to take your finger off.

I liked having my red bellies, but eventually there was only one left, you do the math!!!
