Hi I have seen people keep them in a 55 gallon. I wanted to know if I could keep 5 of then in a 55 gallon tall? tia Dave. :thm:

red belly piranhas. How many would fit comfterbly and still be cool looking?

Comfertably? most you could do is 2 but I wouldn't recommend it seeing as they easily get to 10" min size and a pair will soon become one. A 55g is a perferct size for an irritan piranha, much better than reds, because reds are sooo skittish and timid. I would get a single speciman serra for a 55g tank.
 
I have a single RBP in a 55g standard. The disposition of these fish is highly dependent, they're not always timid. Mine lives by itself in a dimly lit tank with lots of overhead cover, and it not only eats greedily in front of me, but it will sometimes charge the glass when I get close.
