The active swimming will likely slow down as the fish matures... It will probably be able to squeak by in a 55g tank, but will take a bit more coordination to turn around once it hits its full size. (it will probably take a few years to hit full size anyway, and it'll be fun to watch it grow up) For any newbies checking out this thread, I wouldn't recommend trying this, as it would be "ideal" to have 5+ in a 125+ gallon tank, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Nicely done somethingpishy1, looks like your piranha is healthy and happy.

People say they do best in groups, but Ive seen them by themselves and their fine. Its not like they swim around with each other, they just sit there so I don't really understand why people think they should be in groups.

Ever see a lone pirahna in the wild? I bet not.

groups of pirahna will gang up on plecos and flip them over, then eat their soft bellies. i don't know if just one can do it, but i'd bet on yours being the first. he looks pretty angry.

lol. i wouldn't be surprised. but if i can find a 6"-7" pleco i might give it a try and just watch very carefully
