Piranhas in Alabama?

I do not care if it is illegal is it still possible to get them. I mean tearing the tag off of a matress is illegal but who cares.
hahaha you are kidding right. good sarcasm there. It seriously is illegal to have them though, but so are ferrets in alot of places and I'll be damned if I let the law keep me from having my ferrets. They don't have to know 
. You may have to travel if you are wanting them or if you can miraculously find someone online selling piranhas. I doubt if they are illegal that you'll find them in the state. I would doubt they'd ship them anyway because of it being illegal. So if you want piranhas you may have to wait until you go on vacation or something.

It's illegal for the manufacturer or dealer to remove the tag. As the owner, you are within your rights to remove it. Not sarcasm, but ignorance.

I'm not positive of this, but I heard of up to a $10,000 fine and possible jail time if you get caught with illegal piranha. ...not sure of the exact amount of the fine.
The reason that the fish is illegal is a good one. Most people get piranah simply because they think it is cool to throw a steak in with them and watch them tear it up. After the fish gets to a large size they can be difficult to take care of. Owners get tired of the fish and flush them down the toliet with them having a chance to survive since they are a hardy fish and get into the water supply. Piranah in the public water supply = bad news no matter how u look at it.
Maybe you should get a red bellied Pacu. Perhaps that would be a better choice as a fish as I am sure they are not illegal in alabama and they are closley related. Look the same, they have teeth and will eat meats, fruits, and other just about anything else that will fit in its mouth. Dont get one unless you have a really big tank though and pacus can get rather large. If you want to just see the fish eat then find out what time they have feedings at your local zoo and go see that instead of getting an illegal fish or one you cant take care of.
