I don't know why...but I get annoyed when people refer to the shortfin males as plakat. In Thai, "plakat" just means Betta or Fighting Fish. It has nothing to do with any type of variation on the fish. Since each Betta varieties are generally categorized by their tail (Double Tail, Half Moon, Crown Tail, Comb Tail, Butterfly, etc), why can't they just be called "Short Fin Males?" I know...lame argument, but just wanted to vent. LOL.

Hope you don't loose any sleep..no need to worry....:p: Many folks are faced with generic names for our fishey friends.

Well maybe it's used since a "plakat" betta looks more like a betta does in the wild? Isn't the long finned variation a selectively bred phenotype, or am I incorrect in that assumption? Betta fanatics, help us out here!

I kinda like it. just plain betta. Nothing added. Although once anything changes, like color or half moon tail, I think it gets a little confusing. I wish Plakat would refer only to the truly wild form and color.
