plan for pond, comments?

Looks like an awesome design! The only thing I would do is make sure the corners are not square. This disrupts water flow and decrease water circulation around the pond due to eddys. I love the above/below ground concept and the bench would be a great place to sit and veg with the fish. One more thing, with the waterfall being in the corner of a fence and the filter being part of it will you have access for mtnc?

so instead of the bottom left corner you think that should be more of like the top right, just make it a 45?

and the bench thing i thought would benice because my grandma likes to read so she can go sit out there and listen to the waterfall while she reads

but i was thinking about the main. issue and figured i could make the top edge about a foot wide so you can walk along to get to the filter and stuff, or was thinking can have it under the deck so a pump pushes the water through filter and then up through the waterfall (big pump :)) and just have hinged access to the filter and such

well pretty much got my grandma's ok for the pond stream waterfall idea, just need to price rocks and everything, antbody know where i can some nice round river rocks that arent ridiculously priced?

I'd say 'at the river', but you live in the delta, don't you? You'll just have to talk to local landscapers and materials dealers. Rocks are not the sort of thing you can get a great deal on over the internet, as a general rule.

Great plan! Should turn out awesome, as far a depth I would go deeper than 2" not due to the freezing problem but the heat, 2" of water in LA would probably get too warm to keep Koi.

River rock can obviously be found in rivers but I would suggest going to a landscaper, most landscaping rock that is common is dirt cheap, well kinda. It just depends on what you prefer and as much as you will need you will probably get a discount.

sounds good ill start looking around and see what i can find, and as for depth im going with 4' most probably

thanks everyone :) cant wait to start digging, hope sometime fairly soon

Cant wait for the pics. I'm in landscaping and rock prices have gone through the roof with diesel fuel being so high. You are basically paying for shipping. Good luck and be sure to start a build thread when it gets going.

So what you mean is a 2 foot wall and a 2 foot hole so in total it is 4 feet deep? If so, and if you have the money, you could replace that wall with thick glass or acrylic and frame the top with wood. It would look so awesome to see a 2 foot Koi fish swim next to you. Just an idea. :)

PS I used to live in Jaksonville FL for a couple of months.
