Plant Arrangement

Hey everyone

I've been trying to figure out the prettiest way to plant and I'm still not sure of the correct placement of some of the plants...

To start:

Obviously tall plants to the back and short to the front, but how do you do grouping?

Should I put all my amazon swords next to one another in a tiered format or spread them out all over the back of the tank in a haphazard style?

So check my poll and please comment...

i prefer to space the larger plants out in an even manner, and group the smaller ones together. so a little of both.

although i picked grouped by species it really depends on the plant. ur carpet plants u want close together to crete a grass/carpet effect, swords and other root plants cand be spread throughtout, hornwort and other stems IMO should be grouped together to get the cool lookin bunch effect.....check out http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.or...y=0&vol=3&id=2 the tanks there just amazing......now thts aquascapin at it's finest

I like to clump plants of the same species together...it looks more natural that way. I try to use different shapes to create more of a natural feel...a group of sprial val in the corner, a trail of java ferns into the common area that mixes with somthing else towards the end, etc. I found that looking at natural scapes and other tanks, you will start to notice the things you prefer. Happy scaping (my favorite part!!)

My tank is still pretty new & sparse, so I stuck stuff I knew would get big toward the sides, put 2 decent sized plants near the center & scattered the smaller cabomba frags so they'd get lots of light & current.

Stem plants tend to look better if they are grouped. Any others I find can be placed almost anywhere they fit although in the end mine tend to get somewhat grouped.
