plant beding???

I was wondering if plant bedding is important? I want to set up a planted tank and i vseen the stuff at a local shop and dont know if i need it?

i guess by beding u mean subtrate. it depends on wht type of plants u keep, how much ur willing to spend, and if u want heavy or lightly planted.

i hav a 25 gallon planted with reg gravel, med lighting and lots of low light plants. i still dose ferts and excel for my CO2 and this tank is doin great without something like eco or flourite. on the other hand i will soon have a 10 gallon with eco complete, high light, pressurized co2, dry ferts, and lots of high light plants.

so its really up to u which direction u want to go and once u decide tht u can find out where to start and wht u need for those plants to flourish.

i have used sand and gravel from home depot and had great growth.

I use regular gravel in my planted tanks and they work out well. I've heard both good and bad things about the plant specific substrates. I'd rather have an inert substrate and just have to worry about supplementing fertilizers if I need to.

i went with regular gravel because the cost of eco complete was way to much for my tank.
