Plant growing idea

My idea if it even worked was to take a container such as a pop can and put eco-complete or flourite in the bottom. Next put water in the can with a plant and have a over head lighting that would get them growing. Also have a air pump with gang valves that moved the water and aerated it. What do you think of my idea?? I was thinking having a 24inch light above with cans with plants under it maybe 12 of them and dose ferts. IDEAS?


No fish in the cans and also any bad metals that could hurt the plants or future tank for the plants?

Ya, why not just get a 20 gal long and grow your plants in there.

Well I like the idea of having the plants growing individually also would be cheaper most likely.

I think it would be easier to just devote a small tank to growing out plants unless you just want to grow the plants for aesthetics only and not for aquarium purposes.

I tried this a few months ago. I bought a second hand growlight for hydroponics.metal halide or something.
Set up a small tank with plants and water and very small filter. and fried them, lol

make sure you set it high above if its a good light. the water was boiling.

I do have a small tank devoted to plants but want more and want a cheap way.....I may just buy some more 10g's....

Or try even a rubbermaid tub of whatever shape/size you want. Get some pots and you're set.

I may!!! I just don't wanna spend money on fish tanks right now because I am still buying stuff for my 150g and saving for a 1956 f100.....I may spend like $150 on tanks though and have them plumbed to one main filtering system.

I like Jpap's idea of the rubbermaid tubs. You can get those in pretty much any size that suits you! And they're cheap.
