I am a...

:newbie:

I am also a plants person, both by trade and by hobby, but not too familiar with some aquarium plants. I got this at a great store yesterday, a place that always labels their plants well, but not this one. Can anyone tell me what this is? I was told it was some form of some sort of Echinodorus.

I don't doubt the experts at this forum, but I am somewhat surprised!

The store I got this at has one of these that looks like it has been planted in one of their display tanks for some time, and it is less than 6 inches wide, about the width of the plant pictured. Plus in my years at a (terrestrial) nursery suggests that plants that become large either get a trunk, a long stem, or the leaves get bigger. This plant has 3, 4 or perhaps even 5 layers of leaves in the rosette that are all about the same size.

I am going back to the store and see if anyone there today cares to take the time to identify this from their invoice. This one may get way too big for my tank and may become compost!:nutkick:

Well, the store owner told me the plant was an E. osirus rubra. Maybe this will be too big for my tank. It sure is cute now though...

what size tank?

Sorry to say, this is a 10 gallon tank! I thought this plant looked like it would stay small. I think I made my first mistake buying this plant :shakehead: I may have a lrger tank ready by the time it gets big though. It is so cute now and is red! (All my plants are green and I need color.)
