Hello Everyone,
I was at my LFS the other day and I saw these cool plants that would make a nice back-drop for my tank. This was so stupid of me. So I picked up 2 and they couldn't tell me what they were called. :mad2

Here's what they look like:
They have light green stems and light green round leaves. They are a hassle to get into the gravel. They want to float up to the top.

Can you help me??

I think I've found it. It's called 'Moneywort'.
Any care tips on this plant???

I have several bunches of moneywort in my tank. I've got nearly 1.9 watts per gallon of PC flourescent, and it seems to grow well. I fertilize lightly with flourish and flourish excel. I've added some potassium also, but I'm not sure that I need to in my situation. If you fertilize with KNO3 I don't think it's needed at all. I'm not sure if the flourish excel is even a good idea anymore, as I have DIY CO2 on my tank now. Anyway, it grows fairly quickly in my tank. It is growing nearly straight towards the light (Probably a tiny bit light starved), and new shoots are coming out of the substrate near the base of the plants. It has roots coming out of the stem to nearly 3/4 of the way up, but I like it because it provides fairly good hiding places for my ghost shrimp.
It seems to be doing the best out of all my plants, my crypts dont grow fast and my amazon sword is looking a little blah lately. (Not enough light, I think)
 
Oh. What Im not sure about is which fertilizers my LFS will sell.
Is there one thing I can get that will take care of this plant or do I need more than one?
Is flourish excel popular in most LFS or will I have to put up a fight to find some??

I would recommend reading the fertilizer sticky, it will give you some ideas as to what you might want or need. Flourish Excel is a little harder to find than flourish, at least in my area. Excel is supposed to provide a carbon source to the plants, but how well it works is arguable. Flourish (the regular stuff, not excel) is similar to any trace element additive for aquarium/aquatic plants, and is pretty easy to get in my area. Both can be bought online at Big Als and tons of other places

If you only have the normal single tube light that came with your tank, I wouldn't do much in the way of fertilizers. If you have more lighting, however, the need for fertilizers goes up also. My tank is on the low side of middle (I think) as far as lighting goes. So, I fertilize lightly.. most of what my plants need comes from the fish in with them, with a little supplementation here and there. If you have 3-4 watts per gallon of lighting, you probably need fertilizers and CO2.
 
Thanks Onyx, I read the fertilizer sticky and I am going to lightly fertilize with flourish since I only have 1 tube flourescent bulb that came with the tank. Two of my Moneyworts (I have 4 not 2) are not doing too well they have lost most of their leaves. :( But I think thats only because I don't have fertilizer.

i got a bunch of moneywort when i started planting my tank. it died. the leaves and stems got all mushy and stuff and it just died. i have 2 w/gal compact flourescent and dose with fertilizer once a week and have fetrilizer ion the substrate and diy co2. dont know what happened.
 
Sorry about that biogirl, I don't know what happened either.
