EDIT: slappy, to filter an entire room of fish efficiently you'd need almost an entire house of veggies. many sources quote an 11 to 1 ratio. 11 would be the size of the plant beds in gallons and one would be the size of the aquarium in gallons. beings that the plant beds would be shallow that would take a lot of space.

My thoughts on doing this would be to use the greenhouse as a supplemental filter while at the same time being able to grow some nice emersed aquatic plants and/or edible vegetables. You could provide primary filtration via large 100g water drums plumbed in series then pumped out to the greenhouse for denitrification, etc. Fish help the plants and the plants help the fish. :thm: Either way, it would be one heck of a cool project to keep one occupied. If I ever find the money to do such an endeavor, I'll be sure to look into this further and maybe even turn it into a business venture by breeding and selling fish and cultivated aquatic plants.

the one thing i noticed is that thay are doing it to breed fish so thay are dealing much more fish than say you average aquarist deals with. So it would be easier to make one of these for most tanks also you cude set up indoor grow lights say use an extra t5-ho set up or get a really big spiral florescent bulb. i know you can get one of those in the 125 watt range for 24.99.

Personally for me, part of the major point in such an endeavor would be to use the suns energy to help convert nitrates into plant or food. I was just remembering growing up in S. California where their would be no need for a green house. Well at least Im headed in the right direction as my Pothos plants have reached the ceiling and growing across the wall toward the nearest window. Soon the volume of plant material will exceed what could have grown inside my tanks.
