I've got wendelov fern and java fern and both have the newest growth looking like the pictures. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? My nitrates are about 10-15 ppm and I dose Flourish 1 x per week. I also dose K once per day. I've got more then enough P. Lighting is about 1.5 wpg with some fern very near the top and some near the bottom, both growing the same way. I do 30-40% water changes weekly.

GH is very hard. 17-19 range.

I also dose Flourish Iron occaisionally. I was thinking the regular Flourish would have enough. How much Iron do you usually dose?

How much?

Are the plants new to the tank? If they were recently introduced, it may take a few new leaves before the plant adjusts to the new conditions. Java ferns seem to take their time adjusting ime.

Usually 5 ml per day. That only raises it 1 ppm. Should I add more? Is it possible that this is a K deficiency?

They're both about 5 months old.

Here is another picture. I'm not sure if the dark spots are some type of algea or signs of another deficiency.

I have java fern in each of my tanks because it just won't quit despite essentially no "plant care". In the hard water tanks they get brown spots on the leaves but continue to grow. In the softer tanks they do better. I've also noticed the same wasting away of the leaf tips that you show in the 1st pic. IME it's minimal so I never tried to diagnose it, it comes and goes with little effect. Your recent pic appears to show leaves where the majority is lost, I'd prune those.

So that's 7ppm per week of K. From my recollection, up to 40ppm of K is used. Your lighting isn't high so I would think 15-20 would work. Try doubling your K for now and prune those leaves as ghinksmon suggested.
