Plant-safe snails

I have mts, pond snails and ramshorns and none of them eat my plants. They provide an excellent cleanup service IMO so I encourage their health and well being.

usually the article section prooves to be the most helpful on these issues... but ive never seemed to have any problems with snails eating plants....
 
thanks guys, so to my understanding, ramshorns would probably be the best choice out of the bigger snails
 
I got some Malaysian Cone Snails, as I found them to be highly recommended on a number of different websites as plant-safe algae-eaters. I have not had any problems with them, and they do seem to munch algae quite well. They are live-bearers, so do not leave egg blobs at the water's edge. They also are nocturnal, so once you get a good population of them, if you turn on your lights in the middle of the night, you'll get your pants scared off because there will be snails everywhere on everything. Then in the morning they will mysteriously disappear. The burrow into the gravel during the day, so they also keep the gravel from getting clogged.

If you mean common or red ramshorns, there is a columbian ramshorn that is actually a member of the apple snail family and loves to eat plants. Common ramshorns get as big as 1" in diameter, Columbians get 2+inches

yea, i was talking about the common ones. what i meant about bigger ones was that MTS's dont get as big to my understanding, and i wanted just one snail in my tank
 
IMHO the common ramshorn is the most underrated critter you can have in your tank. I absolutely love every aspect of having them in my tanks. They clean, they are fun to watch, and they provide great food for my snail eaters.

well, i found out that ramshorns are very rare here in hawaii, so the lfs that i go to said that there would probably be no ramshorn snails, so i was unable to get them, but they did have mystery snails, so hopefully the one i got doesnt eat my plants
