Hey....I have 2 tanks, 1 10g, and 1 20g. Both tanks are lower lights, like 1.5 wpg. Also, I'm a begginer when it comes to plants. So what would you suggest? I have pool filter sand as a substrate in both.

EDIT: The fish I plan on getting (not completely set up yet) are: a platy trio, a male dwarf gourami, and 3 cories. So I would need plants that would be fine for those fish!

Try Java fern, it's a low light slow growing plant. The lace variety is very nice looking IMO. Good luck!

thanks! Anything else I could add with Java fern? I really like the vallisnera (sp?) how would they do?

Hi again, Daisy! Check out plantgeek.net. They have a very useful plant guide. I went ahead and pulled up plants by low light here. You can also look up plants by tank placement (foreground, middle, background and floating), difficulty of maintaining... very nifty site. I use it a bunch.

Hi again to you too Harlock! Thanks so much for the link, I have decided on a few, I'm not sure If I will use all of them, but here they are:

Cryptocoryne Beckettii
Congensis
African Fern
Cryptocoryne spiralis
Java Fern
Java Moss

Those are all good bets. I do hope you enjoy a planted tank. My plants have brought me more pleasure than my fish have thusfar, which is surprising to me. I tend to suck at dealing with house plants and the like. I you're going to do Java fern, I'll second the suggestion of checking out the lace variety. Also, since you are going to have Platys and may be having fry, Hornwort isn't a bad choice for cover to help the little ones survive. It can be floated or planted and looks rather serene when the water flow in your tank sweeps it gently about.

Thanks for the tips! I definetly will have some hornwort then, to save the fry...=-)
