Well here we go again!!! The Rummy Noses are at it again plowing through Glosso now and yes they are very well feed. Every so often they just get a taste for a plant and beat it to submission. They destroy my HC on more than one occasion to the point I moved them to another tank and the HC was completely gone. I've got little veins of the Glosso plant with no leaves some areas worst than others. They gone after serveral species and the only way to control there impact to have enough in there that it grows fast enough to restore what they've eaten.
Well the tank is almost reaching the 2 month marks and I've been tweeking it here an there trying to apply my vision for the tank but it hardly translate...LOL (I stink at aquascaping!) I'll add my notes to the pics (I didn't clean the glass for the pics) that follow. The tank has serious BBA I've rescently started to address with peroxide which is going well turning bba red but I ran out.
Right side - my thoughts here are to create a security oasis for fry by removing the Bacopa caroliniana (Giant Bacopa) and filling in the whole corner with Rotala colorata (it use to be red but since I've changed the lights that another issue). The bottoms on the caroliniana were melting anyway the plant need constant grooming it had to go.
Left side - I'm still working this area out but I've just been expanding the Bacopa monnieri working forward the area started with only a few stems.
I tried the Alternanthera reineckii but it didn't work so I'm using it as accent around the tank instead.
Center - Well here I just wanted the Vallisneria americana (corkscrew val) to reach the top of the tank it should also be a fry friendly area. The Glossostigma elatinoides is finally filling in nicely as the foreground plant.
FTS - I still have to work on hidding the tie wraps holding the driftwood together. The power head doesn't bother me but I may get something smaller not sure yet.
My young BN (from my pair in another tank) and Ottos seem to be enjoy themselves
I don't think that's necessarily true. I don't think I've commented much, but usually check in every time or two I get an update email. I really enjoy watching the progress - fits and starts are just fine. It's all part of the game. Nothing stays perfect for long, there's a natural ebb and flow to everything.
I'm just enjoying watching the iterations. Keep up the good work.

Well the tank took a dump again since starting EI the BBA has gone mad and after 6 weeks of EI my tank is more of a mess than without it. Not to mention I now have a different type of algae I didn't before.
I'm now trying MCI method of control imbalance or something like that I'm still trying to work out the 1st protocol after 1 week I didn't hit GSA. The tank is now perling like mad and it appears be having an affect on BBA but so far nothing on the other new algae I got while EI'ing. I've changed the lights at the same time of starting MCI to 3 80w T5HO on a 660 icecap instead of the 2 80w T5ho and 2 55w PC.
I wish I knew the priority uptake of all my plants or where to find it, if anyone could assist I'd appreciate it.
I'm sorry I can't give much advice... the pics you've put up don't look that bad (the fts looks great - the bb on the wood looks natural), but I know that every speck of algae makes you :mad2:. Hopefully others can help you with finding a balance for your tank.
hmmm... i can't help but wonder if your co2 is the culprit with your algae. i believe i see an in-line skimmer in there. purely speculation but i think that may be related. another thing you should make sure you're not overlooking is gh... especially mg.
some folks find it necessary to diffuse on both sides of the tank with bigger tanks, also. i wonder what would happen if you move your drop checker a couple of times...
think we can get a run-down and some pics of the equipment you're using and how everything's hooked up and where? sorry if that's already posted.
