planted tank q's

i was told to take the plants out of their baskets and wool and plant them in the gravel, but if i do, then how do i do my water changes/gravel vacuum?

also, do cories get along with planted tanks?

As far as vacuuming goes, just vacuum lightly around the plants, making sure you don't upset the roots.

also, what kind of plant would be a good background plant? i am going to take back that stupid, piece-o-crap mondo grass i got and exchange it for something better. i'm thinking something along the lines of wavy vallis?
