Planted Tank Total Rearrange... Pitfalls?

What do y'all think of the concept of uprooting, cutting off the tops, and replanting the tops? Throw away the undercarriage? In my 29 g the lower parts of stems are all infested with algae (yeah excessive photoperiod, overstocking because it's my blue guppy breeding tank etc) but the upper portions are clean. The 2 10gs have the same photoperiod but no algae at all, one is a shrimp only tank so low bioload and the other is the female guppy tank but wildly overgrown with java (or maybe taiwan? i forget) moss and subwassertang. I am thinking of throwing a handful of both into the 29g to see if it cleans things up. Along with replanting the tops of the stems which I forget the name of but the growing tip has a nice purple tint to it.

Yes, if the bottom portion of a stem plant gets ratty looking I simply cut it off and replant the top.

As somebody said in another thread of mine, float the tops you cut off and they should sprout some roots if they float up on you after planting them rootless. It was good advice that I just never thought about but I did it myself a while back with glossostigma and it worked beautifully!

I really love glosso! It's probably one of my favorite plants. Yours are looking awesome, PB!

I was just going to ask you if you got it. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying it. As Tom mentioned earlier, there is some stuff in there that is a little dated, but all in all, you'll certainly get your money's worth

Cheers
