I have a low tech planted tank w/ 1.3 WPG; no co2 injection. I have anacharis that seems to be melting?? I have several bunches that I left the weights on and stuck down in my substrate (pool filter sand) Is there a better way to keep them thriving? They are growing beautiful new shoots but the original shoots don't look so good. I also have one bunch tied w/ a rubber band attached to a suction cup for a floating plant. Is there a better way to do this as well? I have a lot of surface agitation from my 2 penguin 200's so I wanted them to stay put! I am a newbie so any thoughts/advice would be appreciated. I also have wisteria which is spreading but some of the leaves are turning borwn - Algae?? :help:

also need fert advice!! (as you can see i am a wreck) LOL

I find in lower light anacharis/Egeria(aka elodea) does better floating.
it feeds from the water column and does not need to be rooted.. eve in high light tanks mine will break free from the bottom.

my tank has a pretty high turn over of water so there is plenty of water moving.. I usually just rig up some fishing line in a loose loop and trap the anacharis in this. some of the free stuff eventually finds it's way to the bottom and will adhere.

I find when first added to a tank it has to have some time to adjust.(melt) the new growth should be fine and adapted.
you may want to lose the wts or loosen them

Can you further explain your fishing loop set up?
It seems that the stuff I stuck in the sand (in the weights) is the problem...........it is shedding badly and, well, melting!

its really easy you get some fishing line tie it in a big loop.what i did was then tie the other end to the filter or leg of the lights to keep it in place. he said big loop so you dont tie it to tight.
