Planting stem plants

Hi Friends !

I want to plant this bacopa stems that I got today, but they dont have roots at the base... do I just push the end in to the substrate ? Will it grow roots ?

Or can I just keep a weight (a small rock or driftwood) in the middle of the stem and let the two ends free ? Will this work or will it harm the plant ?

What i do when i get new stem plants is I cut about 1/4" from the bottom and add the long stem to the substrate, you can also get plant weights ($2 for a bunch). Over the next few weeks they will develop roots.

i dont use plant weights. just dig a hole is the gravel put the stem in then cover it up. for the most part if you get it down a inch or so it should hold fine.

but these stems have leaves till the bottom most end (bottom tip)... do I just remove the leaves for some distance from the bottom and push the bare stem in to the substrate ?

Can I tie them to a small piece of stone using a rubber band and burry the stone into the substrate ?

Can these plants be left to float also ?

yes you can break off the leafs on the bottom. i wouldnt use a rubber band i would just bury them. they can float but best in gravel/sand.

Actually, having a leaf or two is helpful in keeping them down...

I rip the bottom leaves off so they wouldnt rot under the substrate

I could take the photos atlast - kindly advice what plant is this and will it grow well in moderate conditions ?

It looks like Bacopa caroliniana (Giant Bacopa or Blue Water Hyssop). It is native to my part of the world, so it should do fine in a wide range of temperatures and water conditions. In nature it grows in shallow water with the upper stems emerging above the surface, but it will probably be fine totally submerged as well.

I do the same for planting - just stick the stems in the gravel.
