How much O2 do average aquarium plants release into the water. I'm setting up a 55g. w/flora base, a 260 watt light and 46 plants. I was wondering If my power went out if my plants would provide enough O2 for my fish? My tank will have 13 fish initially at 30 inches- 'till they grow.

Plants generate O2 only while photosynthesizing, so if the power is off and the tank not in a greenhouse or other very high natural light situation, the plants will be using dissolved oxygen instead of releasing excess.

Depends on if you use CO2. They will hit 150-% saturation if you have light..but if the power goes out, how can they photosynthezie?

I'd not worry much about that question:)

I hope you plan on using CO2, with that light, you'll have to have it.
Less packed the tank is, the better the power outage issues.
