So I am making a whitewater biotope and I would like to put some plants in. The tank is a 40 breeder. I have one powerhead right now, but I may be using two. What kind of plants would do okay in water with a good current?

Most do well at 1-2 mph which is pretty fast for aquariums.

Crypts, swords, fine needle plants, anything that roots or is an epiphyte etc.

I push 3000gph+ 1200gph + 350 gph through this 180 Gal tank:

I forgot to mention, the lighting will be about .5WPG and I am hoping to use an acitinic bulb.

Well that is a bigger problem then current/flow. You won't be able to grow anything in .5wpg of acitinic. For one that's to little light, maybe a anubius might be able to survive in that weak of light but actinic is the wrong spectrum of light so even that probably will die. You better rethink your lighting before even debating planting it. Get above 1 WPG and get in the ballpark of 6700k, anything in the 5k-10k range will a much better choice.

The fish that will be going in that tank are much more comfortable with slightly more than ambient light. A lot of people with whitewater predators usually don't even turn the lights. I just think the acitinic light looks much cooler than no light. When I switched from the standard 18" flourescent bulb to an old 18" 15 watt acitinic bulb, the fish seemed much more comfortable.

I was planning on mainly driftwood and rocks as decor, with a few plants. I think I will try some hardier plants, but accept the fact that they will probably die.

Any suggestions though are still appreciated.
