plants and snails?

When I set up my next tank I'd like to put some live plants in it (for guppy fry to hide in), but my mother insists that all plants come with hoards snails (or at least thats how she makes it sound) and that she doesn't want any snails, b/c they'll breed, etc...
Okay, so I was wondering how true is the statement and what are some ways to protect plants from snails?

Do a search for bleach dips in the plant forum. A lot of people like to do a mild bleach dip (can't remember the strength) and this is supposed to kill off snails.

Live plants are great for guppy fry, as they provide a source of nurishment and a place to hide.

However, snails aren't all that bad. I have 2 varieties in my tanks and I love having them. Occasionally I thin out the herd but they do a great job of limiting my algae and excess food waste.

The dip method works well, or you could try yoyo or striated loaches.
