Plants dying - need some ideas

Sorry everyone....all my other information is correct except my light wattage is really 384 watts...running 6700K bulbs. I setup a DIY CO2 injector yesterday and it does work.....it dropped my ph from 7.2 to 6.8 i slowed it down alot because i didnt want the ph to change anymore.....guess once i get the correct flow i should be ok...

But why can't I just use flourish excel? that is supposed to be the way to go about dosing carbon into the tank w/o the use of co2 due to the ph drops it causes. Are you saying their product doesn't work? Or do I just need to dose more of it. I am following the 10ml for every 100 gallons dosing once daily. Is there anyway to test the amount of organic carbon in the aquarium?

Sounds like you are on the right track now. I have no measurable kh, meaning the regent I use has no reaction at all in the water. The water company claims it is 3, the LFS told me it was less than 2. Anyway when I add co2 it drops the ph from 7.2 to about 6.4. It seems to be stable there. If all you are using is one DIY bottle of co2 I would just let it run. Now all you need is a reasonable grip on the ferts you need.

With all that light and all these changes you might have to watch for an algae problem next.

So should I stop the co2 and just use the seachem flourish excel? You are supposed to be able to use instead of co2 dosing....how can i check the amount of organic carbon in the tank to make sure im dosing flourish excel properly?

I want to build a solenoid that I can use with my DIY reactor..... Thinking of getting a ph monitor where i can plug a solenoid into it....and instead of using co2 bottle...just make my own...cheaper and easier :) any ideas where to start looking for the pieces i need?

I finally found something that works...I started using this stuff called Geo Liquid in combination with flourish excel and i have noticed a great improvement in my plants, fish and overall water quality. Thanks for all your help guys!

How much do you figure it is going to cost you in the long run using Excel in a 125 gallon tank?

Well....according to their instuctions I use about 2 capfuls per day. I have a 1 gallon jug that should last a few months. On top of that I have been using this stuff called Geo Liquid. It has made a dramatic improvement in my situation. I tried CO2 injection but was very scared in regards to pH changes, etc. so I stopped using it in a few days. If you want to check out this Geo Liquid stuff I found it at http://www.discountedsuperstore.com They seem to be the only place that sells this stuff in the entire U.S., at least from what I have found.

I swear up and down by this stuff now along with Flourish Excel. They work great together. Im actually proud to show my aquarium off to friends now :)

Haha. Any pictures of your tank for us?:dance2:

I would love to see a pic of your planted 125. I am in the process of planting my 125 and I could use a few ideas.
