Plants for Paludarium

Hi Friends !

I'm setting up a paludarium and just wanted to request for some guidance on which plants can be suitable for these. I understand that I can use Ferns, Moss and Anubias but I'm looking for some other commonly available plants that grow on the shore line. Some thing grass like growing between the Rocks would be great.

Is there any seed which we use for food that can tolerate a lot of moisture , which I can sow in the gaps between the rocks and aquarium wall etc, so that grass like plants grow out of these gaps ?

I hope my question is not very dumb - sorry if it is.

Hi Sir,

Thanks a lot for the kind reply and for caring. Just wanted to request if you can kindly guide me on the fast grwoing Clover plant. I'm not sure if it is obtainable here in India. Will be a great help if you can kindly guide on the name and if possible a picture of the plant (from google) so that I can enquire or hunt for it here.

Also kindly guide me on the Maselia minutia and HC, Sir.

plants like your money plant can be used but are often too large for the paludarium.

I had assumed you were in the US, the clover I mentioned is nothing to seek out, it's just a weed here. here's an article about how to GET RID of it. lol http://www.ehow.com/how_2091499_of-white-clovers-destroying-lawn.html

I use HC in my 5.5 gallon paludarium and it's beautiful.

A lot of the aquarium plants we use here in the states originate in India, I'd be surprised if you wouldn't be able to find a lot locally. are you near water?

Thanks a lot for all the care and guidance. Wow, I wish I can find that weed here. I guess it will grow well in my tank...

Anyways, yes sir, I'm near water but the rivers and streams here are so polluted that I hardly see any plants which I can collect. May be there are cleaner spots in the interiors but I'm really not sure, as I have'nt ventured far...

Anyways, thanks a lot for all the help and guidance Sir - I'll update if I'm able to find any plants here...

Friends, any ideas if I can use paddy for this application ? Will grow well in the gaps and cracks ?

Have you looked at hydrophyte's tanks? He has a blog & has posted here at AC. Crypts & more, really cool. Not paludariums I think but similar. I can't think of the word...riparium?

Crypts would work depending upon humidity. Also, I have heard of people growing hair grass(Eleocharis sp) above water. You may have some of those around you, supposedly various species are native to India. Brazilian pennywort(Hyrdocotyle leucocephala) is common here in the states, not sure if any aquarium shops would have it in INdia.
