Hello
I have a 55g with 2 very young southern painted turtles on the way. Tank is half full, has reptisun lighting and I'll supply good substrate. Yes, I know that the turtles will prob eat/destroy the plants....I would like to try red root, duckweed or other floaters and any hardy plants that you think might work or feed the turts. I'm in the test phase and would appreciate any advice. I am willing to take some chances for the fun of it!

In my turtle tank, I've had luck with those floaters and Ceratophylum demersum (coontail). It's a fast growing, low light, submersed that doesn't root. Just keep in mind you may need to supply additional light in the appropriate spectrum for any plant growth. In addition to my Repti-sun, I have 75w of HOT5 6500k and 10000k for the plants.
