I stopped in petco today, thinking I might pick up a couple of plants. Instead, I once again came home to do research. Although they had a good varity, I had an uneasy feeling about them, and wanted to see if they would suit my needs. I am glad I did. A number of these plants, although capable of surviving for a time, are in fact terrestrial or bog plants and not suited for permanent submersion. Anyway, I thought I would pass this list on to other begginers who may be lured in by easy plants.

Species commonly listed as non aquatic

Umbrella Plant Spathiphyllum wallisii
Peacock Fern Selaginella Willdenowii
Pongal Sword Chlorophytum bichetti
White and Gold ribbon Dracaena Sanderiana and variegatus

Those are the five my store had, there may be others in that product line.

The 1 in my town has about 80% aquatic plants right now and am impressed by this trend will see if the keep this up.

Good for you for researching first! A lot of folks unfortunately make the mistake of buying those plants for their aquarium without checking around before they buy.

i did an impulse buy and purchased 3 tubes of wht i think was Argentina sword (or something like that) wich looked liked like an aquatic plant so i felt comfortable buyin it. i can't find any info on it but they alll are doing fine after 4mths. u just hav to keep a sharp eye out for what ur buying.
