Plasma or LCD?

Here is the deal, Plasmas have better blacks for the first couple years (ten year life span) Lcd's don't but retain more picture quality for a longer amount of time~ BUT screw both and get a Samsung LED they >> Plasma >> LCD big time.

Ours are LCD's and I like them a lot, but am not a very electronics minded person. They're bright / good pictures in our rooms here.

Made this decision just this past fall. Went for an LCD model, a Sharp Aquos 46 inch. Very happy with it for sporting events etc, and my kids can't get enough Wii playing!

I have that same TV.

the led tv's are lcd tv's that utilize the latest lcd systems and have led backlighting instead of flourescent backlighting which is often used on many lcd models. plasma systems have been improved to eliminate most burn in situations. they operate with much heat requiring internal cooling fans.they are higher in electrical consumption in most instances.

That was another reason I never looked at replacing my plasma, energy costs.

I have a 40" Sony XBR LCD. I had it professionally calibrated a couple weeks after bringing it home. It still looks looks just as beautiful as the day it was calibrated, about two years ago. I wish i would've gone a little bigger, but the picture quality on this model is outstanding. Blacks are black, and skin tones are spot on. I regularly watch Blu-Rays and hi-def material, and this TV never hiccups for even a second.

Nah...There's no substitute for the real thing.

My folks have 3 TVs--2 are LCDs (1 is LED) @ 240 Hz and one plasma. When sitting down and watching a Blu-ray, the plasma, in my opinion, still has them beat. I will say, however, the LED backlit tv comes somewhat close, but not quite. The LED is an LG, the other LCD is a Sony XBR9, and the plasma is a Pioneer.

Thrak, if you don't mind me asking, how much did your calibration cost and who did you use (or if they have nationwide locations).
