I think my friends Platty has Ich. Yesterday I saw it and it had tons of white spots on him. I read an article on it and didn't understand what it was trying to say. Can someone tell me the easiest way to cure it?

I believe there are lots of meds out there that treat ich. Go to your LFS and get one then follow the instructions on the bottle. Most of the time youll have to take out your carbon filter if you have one and raise the water temp to like 85...very curable though
My neons had ich at one point in time. I followed the instructions in the following article and the ich cleared up shortly after.

It's helpful to know that what you're treating aren't those little white dots. You will see them dissapear, but that just means that the adult parasites dropped down to the bottom of the tank where they will explode and send little baby parasites swimming around looking for your fish. That's when they're sensitive to medication.
The salt and heat treatment is the best. Do that and read up on Ich and it will be over as fast as it came.

Do you just put tea spoons of table salt in there? Won't that be bad for the fish? And can ich kill the fish?
Not just any amount of salt. Read that link for how much. But before it goes into the tank you need to mix it up in a glass. Its not bad if its short term. And yes, after a while ich can kill.
Ich is by all means deadly in the aquarium. Ich reproduces at a rate that ensure survival in the wild where a host is difficult to find. In our tanks a host is easy to locate, and the high reproduction rate causes fatal numbers to find a host. If the ich itself does not kill the fish it will weaken them enough to allow secondary infections from bacteria or fungus. All treatable issues, but when combined they are all highly stressful to our fish.
As said mix the salt in water before adding so that it is all dissolved. I usually pour the salt mix in slowly in the path of current so it dissipates well in the tank.

Bad news, out of the 5 fish he had, 2 are the only ones alive still. They have the crap ich all over them. They called in somewhere and the lady says its to late, its already spread everywhere. It is his fault though, he didn't even get the medicine or add the salt in. He doesn't even know if he wants more fish after. Okay what should he do when they all die?
Should he just dump all the water out, rince the rocks out good a few times and stuff? If he put the rocks back in, and put water in it again and waited a few days before putting some fish in, should it be fine? Any advice would be helpful. And why does ich even start?
