Platy showing agression

I didn't know that Platys had it in them to be so nippy. I have 5 young platys in a 10 gal tank with a Crowntail Betta. It seems as though the Betta's attitude is rubbing off onto my oldest baby platy. He is starting to chase his younger brothers around. He also seems to like to tease the Betta. Is this common? The parents of these Platys are the first ones I've ever had and they don't act this way. :Angel:

When I kept platys and swordtails they were always kind of nippy, especially between males.

I am especially surprised that he likes to go after the Betta and get the Betta to chase him. It is like he is teasing him, or even harassing him. It is kind of funny considering that Bettas are usually the owners of the tanks.

They can be very playfull, but be carefull...as they get bigger could harass the beta to death. I once had a 3 inch female platy who was very moody. She would have ripped a beta to shreds if it came near her.

Thank you for the heads up. I'll keep an eye on them. They are just babies now, about 5 months old.
