I just added some platies a few days ago - I was surprised to see everyone of them nibbling on the cucumber I placed for my otos... I had no idea they would be competing with the otos for food.

okay i figured i would just tack on another related question here.
i have 14 platys in my tank and they are making huge amounts of poop, i mean if i dont vac the tank about twice a week it starts to look like crap (no pun intended
) do your platys act this wat too or is it because i am feeding mine too much, or something else?

platies can be hogs, so I wouldn't feed anymore flake or other dried food than they can eat in a minute or two. i only do a 50% water change once a week, but i've got tons of plants, so i don't gravel vac either.
oh and they do poop alot!

im hoping they will start making fry, i would like to have about 100 in the tank after that ill have to add something to eat the fry, or take them out and raise them to give away.
i just found something the platys will fight over. i was having a snail problem so in a pure moment of desperation i just started squishing all the snails i saw, big little, all of them hundreds. now the platys are pulling the snail part out of the squashed shell and eating them. its a win win situation.
plus i noticed that i have a few fry so i moved them to another smaller tank. now im really excited.
