Please evaluate my tank

Hi everyone! :hi:

for the past month I've been reading and reading and reading about pretty much everything in this forum and have done tons of searches, which I'm glad is free.

I currently have a 40g tank and a 10g tank. My 40g includes:

3 dwarf guorami
9 neon tetras
5 female guppies
6 spotted corys
5 otto cats

and contemplating on getting 8 harlequin rasboras, but not sure yet.

In my thinking I don't really count the otto cats and the corys because one species are mostly grounded and the other or on the sides of tanks. So they stay out of the mid and top areas of the tank.

but anyways, please let me know what you guys think. Any comments, bad or good are welcome. I going to use this post to polish off my knowledge on the fishes I got, so please fire those opinions away.

On my 10g tank I am almost done cycling and have probably a week or two at most left. The tank currently holds 4 active yellow guppies.
The tank has the penguin 150 filter on one end of the tank and a whisper 20 on the other. let me know what you think of this as well.

On my 40g tank I have the penguin 330 on one side and an AC 110 on the other as well.

I think you are okay right now- long run though, I would keep an eye on those gouramis. They might become aggressive towards one another. And I see what you are saying about the cories and otos, but you still should count them in your stocking levels as they still contribute to the bioload. It might just be me, but I think you're full. Adding the harlies probably woudln't be a horrid thing though if you are really good about water changes.

40 is full. Adding another school of fish won't cause an immediate problem, but the first time power goes out, you'll likely see problems. I prefer to stock my tanks to handle emergencies--your call. Even with 2 filters, the system will likely be overwhelmed by the simplest thing--even overfeeding could cause a crash in a tank that's overstocked.

On the 10, sounds like there's a lot of current in there--why 2 filters?

I see where you guys are getting at and thanks for the quick response. I'll probably wait a bit and see how things go for awhile before/if I add more fish.

As for the two filters, I had an old filter that was just sitting around being useless and I figure if i'm putting two on my main, why not put the other to use in my 10g. The currents are pretty strong thanx to the newer penguin 150, but I'm gonna put a prefilter on that one to slow down a bit.

I have 37 fish and a pleco in my 40 g tank. It has been up and running for about 1 yer, power has went out for several hours 3 times and never saw any negative effects, no changes in water parameters after eachoutage. I am faithful with my water changes once a week 25-30 percent. I feed everyother day.
