please help me get rid of BBA

Kent's Pro plant has nitrogen and micro-nutrients. If you're already adding micro nutrients then I'd look for something like Seachem Nitrogen.

I try to keep my nitrates between 10-20 ppm. My plants seem to do the best at this range without killing the fish or feeding the algae.

i recently got rid of bba... did a serious cleaning, got as much as I could off, took off affected leaves, did a 4 day blackout, a lot of the bba died but not all, removed what was left that I could get off, then I triple dosed flourish excel for a week, at the end of the week, no more bba. Going strong for a while now. Some will automatically say that a black out won't do anything, but i put more on one success than heresay. Good luck

the only thing I do in the way of ferts are commercial houseplant root tabs (which were reccomended to me by a fellow aquarist as they are free of chemicals and very low in phosphates.)

now that I look closer, it actuallly seems kind of whitish. the brown-ness must have been decaying stuff stuck on the leaves. do you know what it is?

well, in the cause of BBA anyway, i tried that whole Prime treatment thing.. took out all the plants, dipped them in a small container of prime bit by bit, rinsed, and re-planted... no more BBA, and what is left is bright red.

I'm having a time with BBA in my frog tank. I was ready to nuke the tank...

What I have done is:
(1) Added a Hagen natural plant system (with DIY yeast mixture)
(2) Began dosing with Excel (with the recommended dosage, I don't want to kill my frogs
(3) Cut down on the time that the lights are on

I really am starting to see a difference. It is still there, and is still growing, but I swear it starting to slow down at least. It's been a week, and I can still see the surface of the leaves, they aren't being jacketed with algae...

Oh, I almost forgot

(4) I added lots more plants....

Sounds to me like it isn’t algae at all, more likely something disintegrating. A leaf of something or perhaps some dead moss itself.

hmmmm.... well, turns out it was hair algae, and the hairlike strands collected a lot of organic debris, making them look brown. i'm going to buy a couple of amanos for the tank to help get rid of the hair algae, then. i've been meaning to buy some since I gave away my pleco and lost my oto.
