well, in the cause of BBA anyway, i tried that whole Prime treatment thing.. took out all the plants, dipped them in a small container of prime bit by bit, rinsed, and re-planted... no more BBA, and what is left is bright red.
If it's short hair-like strands on the bottom side of your moss only (and no where else in the tank), it could be the normal root hairs (forget the technical term) the moss uses to attach itself to objects.

If it's fuzzy and hard to pull off then it's BBA. It can be easily killed by spot treating the affected areas in the tank with pharmacy 3% hydrogen peroxide using a syringe. If you go this route try a low dosage of 1-2 mL per gallon and if you want to be really safe do a water change shortly after, although this probably isn't needed. The BBA should be dead in a couple days.
For nitrates, the best way to do it is to add KNO3, potassium nitrate. It's way cheaper than any liquid product you can buy.
just another thing, i bought a bottle of flourish excel, and began NORMAL doses (read: not double dose), and what was left of the BBA is now wilting and turning grey.
