It was suggested that I start a new thread to id my pleco and discuss some new tank buddies.

My guess would be a common. He (I think) is 13" long and either 5 or 6 years old.

He's in an 55 gallon tank, now all alone for the first time in his life. His tank mate, another 11.5" died last week. Before that he also was with two goldfish(orandas). One died last year, and the other last Nov. Until a month ago, there were some guppies who lived with the pair. Everyone was ok, until I introduced some watersprite.

Today, we just discovered tiny worms, so first thing for us will be to clear that up.

After id and all problems cleared, would love suggestions on some tank buddies. He seems moody since his tankmate died, and I wonder if he's lonely.

Here' some pics to help with the ID. The pic on the right, he's in the foreground(view of his belly) and on the bottom pic, he's on the left.

Thanks

other one appears to be a common.

I think he needs a bigger tank then a 55 too. But anyway, nice fish. No ID for him tho, but may be a common...

count the dorsal rays, over 10 I think means its a common. either way, hes a very nice looking fish, i really like his markings.

more about White on Black (my pleco's name)

On plecofanatics.com, most of the people on there thought it was a snow king. Although some thought common. I thought his former tankmate looked more like the common than he did. they were bought about 6 months apart. He rarely puts his fins up, so it may be awhile before I get them counted. Wht on Blk has teeth, but I don't know how they compare to other fish. His former mate was Black on White. We named them for their patterns. White (spots) on Black (background), and vice-a-versa for Blk on Wht.

Yeah, I tried looking at all those pics, but it's so tedious. Wish it had where you put in certain specs, and then it could show you those pics, since there are soooo many. Although, I did see lots of beauties.

So what size tank should he be in? I can't afford another tank. I was lucky to get most of my tanks free, including the 55. He had been in a 20, although he wasn't nearly so big until just before our neighbors gave us the 55gal. There was a bad algae bloom, and he grew big time. They gave us this tank tank right after that. It had been sitting empty in their house for a couple of years. We were so grateful to get it.

It's hard to imagine it being anything other than a common considering how little we paid for him. Granted he was only 2 inches long at most. It's been 5 or 6 years, so can't remember, but wouldn't have been more than $10, probably not even that much. I'm assuming, being called common, means that it's widely available and cheap. Also consider he was bought in a small town LFS, in Russellville, AR. We moved to North Little Rock a couple of years ago. Haven't found anything as nice as that LFS here, just chain pet stores.

I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks so much. I'm trying to learn all I can to keep him healthy.:)
