Hi Friends !

Just wanted to request for some advice and guidance regarding attaching the Java Moss to a small piece of Driftwood.

How do I attach the whole ball of moss ? Do I just seperate a few strands and tie them around the wood using a rubber band ?

kindly guide me a little as i dont want it to get messy.
Thanks !
Kush

I try and spread it into a "sheet" and lay it over the wood where I want it. I then take cotton string or fishing line and tie it in several spots. I use cotton sewing thread as it dissolves over time. Usually by the time it has disintegrated, the moss it well attached to the wood. You could us a rubber band, my only comment on that is that if you try and remove the rubber band later, it may pull the moss off the driftwood. You want to try and make the moss even so it grows evenly, not in clumps. Hope this helps.

I have always founf that plants failed to attach before plain cotton thread disolves. It doesn't all just disolve at once so what happens is the thread breaks apart and you get pieces floating around the tank. I have come to use two different things to attach moss, ferns and anubias- waxed dental floss and black nylon wire ties (these come in various sizes/lengths and can be ganged together).

If you use either one of these they will have to be cut and removed down the road.

rubber bands do not do well in water for very long, and if it breaks a fish may mistake it for a tasty-looking worm.

I've used rubber bands with no ill effects before. Eventually, the band will break, but if it is being used to hold moss down it will usually stay there since the moss will attach to it, as well as the wood. If I want to take the time though, and it looks nicer, black or green thread. Then you can forget about it. For me. by the time it breaks, the moss is so intertwined it also goes no where.
