Hi guys as you can tell im new here I have been reading alot and love this forum. But now to the sad part I have a 10 gallon which has been cycled for about 4 months now and I have 6 neon tetras 5 ghost shrimp and a guppy. Well I came home from work yesterday and found one of my ghost shrimp dead stuck to the strainer on the filter. And now today I come home and my guppy who i have had for about 2 months is laying at the bottom dead and so is one of the shrimp. I dont know what could have caused this i checked the water using API freshwater master test kit and all of the readings seem fineexcept my ph is alittle high.
Nitrate- 5.0
Nitrite- 0.0
Ammonia- 0
PH-7.2
Any help is greatly apreciated with this I am very sad to have seen my guppy dead.

Hello, :welcome: to AC.
Any nitrite present is toxic to fish, a cycled tank should have 0 nitrites and ammonia.
How did you cycle the tank?
Are you using a water conditoner before adding water to the tank?
How oftern are you doing water changes and how much?

I am sorry to say that i cycled it with fish which I regret ever have doing but I do water changes every week in fact i was about to do one today. as far as conditioner I use Prime and if need be I also have ph down from API also recently picked up there tap water conditioner and was going to be using it today. I have only had the tetras and the shrimp for about a week if that helps at all. thank you very much for the quick responses

ok should I do a water change? If so how much do you think I should do? I am trying to prevent the stress/death of any more of my fish

that is not that high for ph or is it for the shrimp?????

what about your hardness???

You should do 20% 2x per week and you will have a perfect tank and water.

return the ph down as well as the tap water conditioner if you use prime stay with it I don't like mixing chemicals as you never know what might happen.
